Advocacy

As the new 2026-2027 tech plan is implemented, parents can help support good screen time habits both at home and school. Check out Common Sense Media for excellent resources on setting balanced tech boundaries at home. If you have concerns about screen time use in your child’s classroom, we recommend opening a conversation with your child’s teacher. This could be an email (templates below) or a casual conversation. Shifting classroom culture back to pre-pandemic learning may take time and support, and Screen Sense is here to help!

If you’re pleased by the changes you see in your child’s classroom, make sure to tell your child’s teacher and principal. Thank them for making positive changes with tech use!

SSOP continues to collaborate with district-level administrators as well as each of our school board members. Our organization is also connected with state and national organizations including Schools Beyond Screens and Distraction Free Schools, and there is some very exciting state legislation being proposed. Scroll down for more on how to find and contact your state rep.
